Spoilers of course. Quite an interesting, if long, interview. It can be downloaded.

Things that interested me (spoilers):

  • Lancelot is really important this season.
  • The triangle has a great twist in it (yeah, heard that one before)
  • Gwen’s character really progresses.
  • The triangle is a big arc in season 4
  • Gwen goes on the biggest journey this series. So does Morgana.
  • They are trying to give the women stronger roles in the show (because they’ve earned it. :/)
  • Arthur steps up to the plate and Merlin is always at his side. Their friendship grows.
  • If he could, he would have a 6th series if there are stories to tell. It’s too early to think of it.
  • Some lines in the first episode makes him cringe
  • He loves Howard Overman’s humour
  • One of his favourite lines was in the last episode of S3 during the round table speech when Merlin says he doesn’t really feel like it.
  • They have actual experts to write the Old English spells
  • Hints that Agravaine might be blackmailing Gaius.
  • Hints that S4 is going to end on a cliffhanger :/
  • Uther is not going to stand aside for Arthur

THEY ARE TRYING TO GIVE WOMEN STRONGER ROLES IN THE SHOW

AM GETTING MY HOPES UP AGAIN!! LOL

I WANT to get my hopes up but I’m a cynic because they’ve talked about Gwen and Morgana having bigger rolls and important things to do at the beginning of every season since S2 and it’s never really happened beyond Gwen getting actual lines and Morgana going off the deep end. I’m HOPING that the combo of fans commenting and complaining about women’s rolls at Q&As, and Angel and Katie asking for more things to do, and possibly some other people higher up the production ladder nudging and pointing out issues behind the scenes might FINALLY have pushed the producers to really think about what they’re doing with regards to how female characters get treated. But I’ll believe it when I see it.
